The First Chapter...
Posted by Margit Rahill
…begins the first of many in the coming Rotary Year for our District, and for me as a new District Governor. We start this journey together as part of the 1.25 million members of this wonderful worldwide organization. This is probably the most exciting, perhaps the most challenging and hopefully will be the most fulfilling one as we start on this road. The journey of the coming year with all your support, your input, your comments will help in the direction we will be taking together.
But first let me thank those who came out to the Banner Exchange and supporting both PDG Frank and I at the Windlass Restaurant on beautiful Lake Hopatcong about two weeks ago. The turnout was unbelievable. A great big thank you to those who invited my husband Mike and I to start the year even before July 1st to install their clubs' incoming officers. I truly feel blessed for the warmth everyone has shown to us.
Many of you know one of the most important issues to be tackled not only for our District, but for all Districts in the Western hemisphere is membership. It is time for all of us to step out of our comfort zone and to ask acquaintances, or friends to join us for a lunch, breakfast or a dinner meeting, without giving them the pressured feeling that it is a request to join us as members.
Some non-Rotarians may not know that it is not necessary to own your business any longer. Retirees maybe a new source for us to tap into. How about that neighbor who is always volunteering for one cause or another? Could they be a possible candidate? My own little Rotary Club, Jefferson, was only a 9-member club 2 years ago, and now we have a membership of 23 and growing. Don't be shy- Just ask!
Use social media to advertise and promote club events and fund raisers. Think about working together with other clubs. We will have a new committee to support and aid such ventures. The” Joint Club Initiative Program” is chaired by “Top Dog “Frank Alai of the Morristown Club. Look for him to be reaching out to you.
For our new club Presidents’ welcome on board and Thank you for taking the helm of your club. May our journey together be a wonderful journey and leave fond memories for you and your club members.
Each of the coming months will bring something special for us to enjoy and celebrate. Our current month of July has started with the Ross Redmond Short Term exchange group enjoying their first week in Japan in District 2670, and towards the end of the month we will be receiving the other part of this exchange program, as their Japanese counterparts arrive on our shores.
So as we head into the first month of the Rotary year be sure to enjoy, share and ---- “make Rotary a never ending chapter in your life”.
Yours in Rotary,
